UES Positions
Student (you)
Every student enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering Science at Western is automatically a member of the Undergraduate Engineering Society (UES). You help us shape events, services, and initiatives that make engineering at Western an unforgettable experience for everyone!
Commissioners
As a commissioner, you are appointed by a UES Executive member and a director to help them plan, organize, and run initiatives, events, and services for engineering students. Commissioner hiring often happens in the spring season.
Directors
As a director, you are responsible for leading a specific portfolio within the UES. You plan and oversee initiatives, coordinate your commissioner team, and ensure that events and services run smoothly for engineering students. Directors work closely with executive members to bring ideas to life and may be in charge with some of our working groups. Director hiring often happens in the spring season, alongside commissioner hiring.
Year Representatives
Every year and engineering discipline, including select dual degrees, has a representative to voice their cohort’s concerns to the VP Academic and professors. You get to have the power to negotiate new exam and assignment dates with your professor while being recognized as a leader. Year reps also act as a liaison between the UES and their cohorts to keep everyone updated on events, opportunities, and important announcements. They have voting rights in student council meetings to help make decisions that shape the engineering student experience. Year-rep elections happen every fall.
USC Councillors
As a USC Councillor, you’re the voice of all engineering students to the entire undergraduate student body at Western. Think of it as being part of a giant version of UES where every faculty is involved. Whether it’s about policies, finances, or social events run by the USC, you’re there to make sure engineering students are heard and represented. USC Councillor elections happen jointly with UES executive elections, which occurs every Spring.
Executives
Executive members are the driving forces behind every student-led initiative and operation in Western Engineering. They plan events, manage services, advocate for students, and make sure everything runs smoothly. UES Executive elections occur every Spring.
President
The biggest boss of UES. The President leads the entire Undergraduate Engineering Society. They oversee all executive members, set the overall direction and goals for the year, represent engineering students to faculty and the university, and make sure everything runs smoothly. They’re basically the main spokesperson and decision-maker for the society.
